Program Description
For those boys in grades 3-8 and girls in grades 4-8 interested in playing more competitive basketball, DYB provides a Travel Team program. Each Travel Team is a select team. Players must tryout each year to earn a position on the Team. Players and Parents need to understand the commitment, competition and cost will be greater than the Intramural program.

Tryout Objective and Information
The objective of the Travel Team Program Tryouts is to give each player as much opportunity as possible to perform at his or her highest level of ability and give each player a fair, impartial and open chance to compete equally for a position on a Travel Team. All players are put through basic basketball drills (shooting, passing, dribbling, rebounding and defense). All players are evaluated on their basketball skills, knowledge, athleticism and attitude. DYB appoints an Independent Evaluation Team based on their experience and impartiality. The Evaluation Team will run the tryouts and the DYB Board of Directors will take the information and make team selections. Tryouts are held the last two weeks of October. Times and Locations will be posted on this website. There may be 2 tryout dates for teams whoch have a larger number of players trying out. It is highly encouraged that players attend all team tryouts.

Number of Teams
DYB will determine the number of travel teams per grade based on demographics. Teams sizes will vary usually with 10 to 12 players on each team.

Selection of Coaches and League Placement
The DYB Board of Directors will actively solicit coaches for travel programs. Interested candidates should register online through the DYB website. DYB will identify and interview potential coaches if needed.  DYB will select a coach for each team shortly before tryouts. Selected coaches will be required to attend a kick-off meeting. DYB will also place each team into an appropriate league for competitive play. Team placement into leagues is done at the discretion of the DYB.

Selection of Players
Player selection will be based on the skill level and game ability of each player as shown in tryouts, but input from a prior year's coach and other qualified evaluators will also be taken into consideration.

Season Length
The travel season begins the first of November with 1 or 2 weekly practices. Games begin with a preseason tournament at the end of November. Teams generally play 15-20 games per season, most on Sundays between 10am-5pm, with the season ending in early March. Besides the league schedule, teams also participate in various tournaments throughout the season. Tournament participation is at the coaches discretion.

Cost of Participating: 2015-16 Fee is $90 per player
The 2015-16 fee is $100 per player, though family discounts do apply. Uniforms, which consist of reversible jersey, shorts, and a warm up shirt, must be purchased separately and typically cost around $50 when purchased as a set.  Team uniforms can be worn for multiple seasons.

Playing Time
It is important to realize that playing time is never equal on Travel Teams. Coaches will make the final decisions as to the actual amount of playing time each player will receive. Some of the factors coaches will take into consideration include ABILITY, ATTITUDE, ATTENDANCE AT PRACTICES, AND SCORE OF THE GAME.

Registration will open in early Sept. but closes for Travel Team Players on Saturday, Oct. 2nd. Registration can be completed by selecting the "REGISTRATION BANNER" located at our League home page. If it is your first time registering online you will be prompted to select a username and password and then walked through the registration process. DYB accepts all major credit cards and Pay Pal for payments. If you or a family member is interested in being a head or assistant coach of a Travel Team please take the time to register as a coach as well.
